Tony Bellew pulled no punches when it came to talk of Dereck Chisora jumping into the ring with ‘The Bronze Bomber Deontay Wilder after Chisora’s split decision victory against Kubrat Pulev.
Laura Woods, Tony Bellew, and David Haye formed the commentary team for DAZN last night, while David Haye talked up a potential match-up between Chisora and Wilder, Tony Bellew was quick to say he did not want to see the fight.
Bellew was clearly concerned for the safety of his long time friend Dereck Chisora, who at the age of 38 is coming to the back end of a long grueling career, in which he has already taken plenty of punishment in some hard fights. In my opinion, Bellew was spot on in his analysis of the situation.
Laura Woods states “He (Chisora) says he wants the Bronze Bomber”, Bellew pauses and states he would rather see him fight Pulev again. As David Haye attempts to hype up talk of Chisora fighting Wilder again, Bellew was quick to shut it down “I don’t want to see that”.
Further on in the conversation, Bellew went on to say “Look Deontay Wilder is the most ferocious puncher the heavyweight division has seen in a long long time”
It is difficult to see where Chisora goes from here, he clearly wants another couple of big fights and paydays before he calls time on his career, I am with Tony Bellew, in the sense I would not like to see him in with Wilder at this point in his career, there is potential for trilogy fights against both Dillian Whyte and Kubrat Pulev.
Eddie Hearn also spoke of Chris Arreola and Adam Kownacki as possible opponents but I am not sure they are the names Chisora has in mind to end his career on.
