Anthony Joshua signs with DAZN

Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has signed with DAZN ahead of his upcoming rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

The deal which is reported to be a long-term one is set to also initiate DAZN’s new PPV model in the UK, with Joshua v Usyk II set to be DAZN’s first fight on the new PPV model.

Anthony Joshua who will net 100 million per year from the deal stated “I am entering a new phase in my career with a new training environment, new coaches, and now a new broadcaster. Negotiations at this level take time so I am pleased to have it all wrapped up and now I can fully focus on giving the fans and DAZN what they want – knockouts”.

“DAZN’s vision and passion to innovate is what attracted me to the partnership. They are leading the digital landscape in sports and the future of sports broadcasting”

Joshua had only recently just switched trainers, moving over to Robert Garcia, who will train Joshua for his rematch with Usyk.

The move will undoubtedly hurt Sky Sports the most, with Joshua being the face of their boxing coverage for a number of years, with promoter Eddie Hearn and Matchroom boxing leaving the channel, and now Joshua – their new promotional outfit Boxxer will have their work cut out to bring recognizable match-ups to the more casual fans.
